Question by Hollywood Thrill: How long before your wedding should you order your dress?
So the wedding is in August 2012 and I am anxious to go dress shopping (I’ve been engaged 2 1/2 years already!). So about how long before the wedding should you order the dress? I’m planning on a big ball gown so I know that will take a long time.

about a year – it can take 4-6 months for some dresses to arrive and youll want to leave plenty of time for fittings.you can start looking now

Question by Class of 08: What are some good ideas for a wedding cake?
Ok my fiance and I are planning our wedding. We hope to have our wedding next to a river in Alabama. Our colors are Chocolate and turquoise blue. What would be some ideas for the wedding cake? I want to keep it traditional but in the same way kidda incorporate our theme into the cake. Just nothing over the top. You know?

Ice cream cake or a filling filled cake is the best choice. The reason is that people generally don’t enjoy plain cake with a layer of frosting these days unless it’s a kids birthday party. That’s why you don’t go to Costco or Sam’s club to pick out your wedding cake. They don’t even have wedding designs for options and that’s why. There are different levels of cake. The last thing you want to serve at a wedding is serve dry cake with a layer of frosting on top. You don’t want to serve simple sugar topped with more sugar. Chocolate cake with turquoise and chocolate fondant would make a great fit with chocolate cream in the center or ice cream if you find a bakery who does that in your area. It’s expensive but it’ should never cost you more than .00 per slice. I’ve heard of some places asking .00 per slice – so don’t get ripped off on this either. You can do alot of different designs with fondant and it holds up well in warm weather much better than a basic buttercreme or whipped frosting. These websites should give you some ideas but the bakery you select will be able to tell you the best options. You pick your bakery and make sure they can do the kind of cake you want and the way it usually works is that if you pick one of the designs in their cake shop book, it’s cheaper than asking them to customize one entirely.
